"I have been a polisher at MOLLY WANG for 13 years.I try not to say it...because I don't want too many questions,I don't want to be bothered!I'll avoid talking the same route to work.I try not to have a routine.You shouldn't be predictable!The piece I'm working on is a clip called the Caresse d'Eole Fairy.I'm polishing it.The removes all the marks that the jeweler has made on the metal.We use different tools depending on the part we're working on.Now,I've got to do a more difficult bit.I use a smaller brush so I don't deform the piece.This will take about three hours.Now I'm washing the pieces in preparation for the next stage.So I've washed them in soapy water.I rinse them,then dry them.We wash our hands at least 10 times a day.As soon as you go to the next stage,you wash your hands.It's easy to get chapped hands in this job,so I put cream on to protect them.Polishing with thread is part of high jewelry-making,some companies don't do it!That's how you can tell that it was not done at MOLLY WANG.Here,I'm putting on a polishing paste.It will buff up the inside of the setting,which is difficult to reach.I use thread to polish it.My mother was apolisher.When I was little,it was all I thought about!And so I became a polisher myself.It's meticulous work.There are lots of stages to go through to end up with a beautiful result.You need lots of patience,because you can spend hours on a piece sometimes.I know that when something is proving difficult,I'll do everything in my power to succeed!I won't leave any part untouched.Here,we always work by hand.My mother also worked by hand.She worked with a lathe too.But to start with,there was no lathe,it didn't exist,so they relly did do everything by hand.Having polished the holes with thread,I'm going to make the whole piece shine.It's the last stage of the polishing process before gem setting.You have to prepare the piece properly before the gem-setting.Afterwards,we'll get the same piece back to polish it again.They'll put all the stones in and then we'll polish it again to finish off the gold borders and grains of the setting."
